Our History

First Baptist Church
South Boston, VA

The Virginia State Baptist Ushers Union was organized on November 15, 1959, at First Baptist Church in South Boston, Virginia.  Usher Unions of Hopewell, Petersburg, Richmond and South Boston are Charter Union Members.

Objections include training ushers in the ushering ministry, providing educational assistance through scholarship funding and contributions to civic and charitable organizations.

Ushers across Virginia gather for a two-day annual convention, which includes a banquet and youth sponsored prayer breakfast.   The convention is always on the third Saturday in September and workshops are held at the annual mid-session in March.

It is the aim of the Virginia State Baptist Ushers Union to reinforce the idea that the work of an usher is a ministry and not a job.  We believe that there is strength in unity therefore, through the Virginia State Baptist Ushers Union, we hope to strengthen our commitment in the ministry of ushering and improve our techniques as Ushers.
